The Stuff of Dreams

Have you ever had a dream so specific that you doubted your chances of ever seeing it realized?

On a crisp, fall morning, we waited outside the hospital for a phone call - a phone call that would change the lives of this family forever. I know Will and Hannah from church. They're the kind of couple that anyone would want to be friends with and the parents of 4 wild and sweet boys...

...now 5 boys! I heard a few months back that they were in the process of adopting. Listening to Hannah explain why, after already having 4 children, they were choosing to adopt, she put into words a feeling that started in my own heart many years ago: the ability to extend the unwavering love that God has for us to another; to show the acceptance of one who does not belong into a forever home.

For most people, religious or not, adoption is an incredibly admired and important aspect of our society. A chance for a child to live a life of being chosen to love. To me, it goes beyond that to being one of the most beautiful pictures of God's love for the world. A few years ago on Facebook, there was a photo series of a couple meeting their adopted newborn in the hospital. My love for adoption and photography combined to create a new dream... to photograph a story of chosen love. The opportunity that I had to witness Will and Hannah meeting their new son for the first time is the stuff of dreams and something that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Like Hannah prayed for her Samuel in the Bible, this Samuel was prayed for by his Hannah, his mom. Of course, he was also prayed for by his dad, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, church... That is one loved child.
